THE RULE OF LAW HAS ONCE AGAIN PREVAILED IN NUGS

6th January, 2016
It is true that justice delayed they say, is justice denied; but it is also true that justice would always get to its destination regardless of the slowness at which its wheels grind. History is replete with several instances that vindicate the above assertion and fortunately, same has just been experienced in the affairs of NUGS with a landmark ruling on the controversial suit challenging the legitimacy of the NUGS President, which was given by the Madina Magistrate Court.
In its ruling, the court never minced words in upholding the legitimacy of the NUGS President, His Excellency PaaQuecy Adu and in fact, proceeded to slap the petitioners with a fine of GHS 1,200 for wasting the court’s time and causing traumatic inconveniences to the NUGS President and the generality of Ghanaian
students, who elected him as the NUGS President.
NUGS would forever be governed by its constitution and no individual can ever be bigger than the constitution that governs the Union. We at CONSFON are happy that this age-long position of ours, has been vindicated by the nation’s judiciary. The court, we understand shall make available, its full judgment in the coming days and we encourage all to endeavor to get a copy of same. We should all be concerned about this precedence in the life of our beloved Union. What a way to begin 2016 with a clean sheet! Fortunately, this is the year of our golden jubilee and NUGS shall be climaxing same with a number of mind-blowing events in the coming months. God has really been so good to us and we cannot be more grateful.
CONSFON wishes to congratulate the NUGS President on this historic feat and also commend everyone connected to this case, including the plaintiffs for resorting to the courts and allowing due process to take its natural course rather than adopting some surreptitious and unorthodox means. We see this milestone as a victory for the RULE OF LAW rather than RULE OF MEN. It is a victory for NUGS and the student movement at large and not one, for the NUGS president nor his ‘overzealous supporters’. We therefore call for moderation and magnanimity in our celebration or the lack of it; even though we believe there is
every justification for the former.
Whereas everybody expresses delight over this development at the courts, we at CONSFON are pleased to inform the general student populace that we are having a hat-trick because today also marks the birthday of one of our leading members, in the person of Mohammed Adams, the immediate past President of the Private University Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) and even more importantly, our convener, Iddi Muhayu-deen who was involved in a ‘slight accident’, miraculously got healed today to the glory of Allah. How more blessed could we have been! We are therefore organizing a mammoth party or refreshment on Friday, 8th January, 2016 to climax our joy for these immeasurable favours (NUGS victory in court, Mohammed’s birthday and Iddi’s recovery party). Attendance is strictly by invitation except for members of the CONSFON fraternity.
We shall make a number of recommendations in our subsequent releases in respect of the way forward for the Union, having in mind, what transpired in court today. For now though, let’s celebrate together for God, country and our beloved union.
Thank you.
CONSFON, We dey for you!
CONSFON, We defend the truth even at gunpoint!
