Preamble:
The 59th independence of Ghana is meaningless until
we retrieve all our stolen monies from Alfred Woyome, "the infamous NDC
financier". No wonder the fallouts of the independence anniversary
celebration only get nauseatingly murkier each passing day. Isn't Ghana an
interesting country? Now watch this:
One man by name, Martin Hamidu, without power and
without resources in relative terms, is able to win every single court case he
files against Alfred Woyome even at the highest court of our land, the Supreme
Court. Yet the government of Ghana, with all the State apparatus at its
disposal including the finest lawyers, the security forces, unlimited resources
and power, loses every single case it files against this same Alfred Woyome in
relatively lower courts.
When you consider the turn of events, you can only
come to one INEVITABLE conclusion and thus agree with His Lordship, Justice
Dotse, the learned Supreme Court Judge who akin this Woyomegate to a brigade of
people who are engaged in "create-loot-share" enterprise of the
taxpayers' money. You would again recall that the High Court Judge who gave the
initial ruling (freeing Woyome) had consistently chided and bemoaned the
lackadaisical attitude of the Attorney General's department in prosecuting this
case. On numerous occasions that the case was called, they failed to appear in
court to defend the State for no justifiable reasons.
In fact, at a point in time, the judge was
compelled to slap the government with a fine of GHc2,000 for wasting the
Court's time with their consistent nonappearance, then they began to go to
court. They deliberately presented a poor case for obvious reasons. The likes
of Betty Mould Iddrisu, Kwabena Duffour, Ebo Barton Oduro, NeeQueye Tetteh etc
who connived with Woyome to defraud the State and therefore ought to have been
prosecuted together with him (Woyome) were all left off the hook for obvious
reasons. How can Woyome alone conspire (with who?) to defraud the State when he
himself has publicly stated that he never had a contract with the government of
Ghana and never forced the State to pay him. Which judge in this country would
have ruled otherwise based on the foregoing? Why won't Woyome have the gut to
say he, has rather forgiven Ghanaians? Obviously things aren't adding up. God
is watching us.
I cannot help but say that there is something
fundamentally wrong with our criminal jurisprudence; where the people who steal
much (like 510 billion cedis) are made to go scot free because they are
politicians who belong to the ruling class whereas those who steal very little
(the vulnerable if you like) are slapped with imprisonment and other punitive
actions by the courts. In fact, it is only in Ghana that when a politician
steals, he is called, a corrupt person BUT when a poor man steals, he is
called, a thief. How paradoxical can we be!
CONCLUSIONS
If as Ghanaians, we need all our stolen monies back
and ensure that Woyome and all his CONSPIRATORS face the full rigours of the
law, then surely, this NDC government would have to EXIT because they have
amply proven that they cannot be trusted to prosecute themselves for God and
country. Except if in the wisdom of majority of Ghanaians, we think that the
government has been able to deliver so much (on their social contract) beyond
our expectations; then we might choose to forgive them in relation to the
countless corruption scandals that have overwhelmed all of us under their watch
and still go ahead to vote for them. The choice is all yours come November 7. I
can't decide for you. You also live in Ghana and I wish to trust your sense of judgment.
Thank you.
