NDC KICKS AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A MINISTRY FOR INNER CITIES AND ZONGO DEVELOPMENT DESCRIBING SAME AS DISCRIMINATORY

Iddi Muhayu-Deen writes...

No sooner had His Excellency President Akufo-Addo announced the establishment of a Zongo Ministry to among other things, rollout the famous Zongo Development Fund, than the NDC and their babies with sharp teeth launched a spirited opposition against this laudable initiative. The NDC contends that it is discriminatory for the NPP government to setup a special Ministry for Inner Cities and Zongo development since no such consideration is given to the other communities in the country.

The party's [NDC] official representative at last Saturday’s [January 14] edition of the country's most authoritative weekend news analysis show, newsfile on joy fm, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, who doubles as MP for Tamale Central and former Minister of State under the erstwhile Mahama government articulated this position to the dismay of many.

Not only that, Hon. Inusah Fuseini went to the extent of arguing that the move by the Akufo-Addo government to establish a Zongo Ministry is not only unfair and discriminatory but also unconstitutional since in his own words, the constitution calls for fairness and equity at all-time.

He obviously forgets that it was his government that established SADA ostensibly to attend to the development needs of northern Ghana (of course, NOT the entire country) even though, it later metamorphosed into a conduit for the looting of our money. That, was not discriminatory to him and his NDC. Such ‘kwasiabinti’ logic!

As a Zongo boy and a proud one at that, I do not only feel let-down by the NDC’s fierce opposition to this policy meant to transform the lives of my people, but I also feel insulted to say the least. And to think that the NDC is the party that has, over the years, enjoyed overwhelming support from the Zongos more than any other political party, simply sends me to the Accra psychiatric hospital for my faculties to be examined. How can people be that wicked and insensitive? The last time I checked, ‘everybody go die one day ooo’.

Maybe I’m being unfair to the NDCs. Maybe we shouldn’t begrudge them that much. Obviously, the party knows that should the Zongo development fund which is going to be rolled out by an NPP government through the Zongo Ministry, be successful, the people of Zongo will be more enlightened; they won’t be that desperate for jobs; they will have most of their needs met and that would mean, a complete disaster to the electoral fortunes of the NDC in the Zongo communities.

So, in the circumstance, the party [NDC] must do everything possible to sabotage the Zongo development fund and also pooh-pooh the Zongo Ministry to make same lose credibility. They must ensure that the people of Zongo are deprived of their basic needs in order to make them vulnerable so they [the NDC] can continue to exploit them for undue electoral advantage. In other words, the more vulnerable and gullible the people of Zongo are, the better it is for the NDC. How paradoxical and shameful!

Today and now, we the people of Zongo are telling the NDC and their surrogates that they can’t fool all of us all the time. We have had enough of their deception; enough of their populist acrobatics; enough of their condescension; enough of their exploitation and for that matter we have had enough of the NDCieves. Just as we have embraced CHANGE in the last elections, so are we embracing progress, growth and development for the love of God, our communities and country at large.

Assalamu alaikum
