MY PEACE MESSAGE TO YOU

MY PEACE MESSAGE TO YOU

IDDI MUHAYU-DEEN writes…

My fellow country men and women, as we go to the polls today to elect the next President of the Republic as well as Members of Parliament, my clarion call is that we MUST all do everything possible to religiously maintain the relative peace and stability of our country. We must necessarily ESCHEW all forms of electoral malpractices, needless provocations and indeed anything which could compromise the integrity of the electoral process as same could lead to violence.

I am also calling on the Electoral Commission and the security agencies to act meticulously and professionally in order to do away with any semblance of suspicion, which has regrettably, characterized the buildup to today’s polls. Ghana has rightly carved a niche for herself as the oasis of peace on the continent and we CANNOT afford to lose this enviable treasure. Posterity would not forgive us either if we did anything to jeopardize our prevailing peace.

We must realize that Ghana is the ONLY country we have and there can never be any better place than our own. If we destroy our country, we have nowhere to go. Election is all about ballot and not bullet. It is about counting Heads and not cutting Heads. There cannot be an exaggeration of the pernicious repercussions of electoral violence. We’ve all seen how conflict has destroyed nations especially some of our African neighbors.

In all we do, we must bear in mind that we are, first of all, Ghanaians before belonging to NPP or NDC. You cannot be a member of NPP or NDC if you are not a Ghanaian. So you see, the Ghana is you is and must always come first or take precedence over the NPP/NDC in you. That is the surest way we can guarantee the sustenance of our peace especially in the aftermath of the polls.

Let’s think about our children’s future and that of the next generation. Let’s think about the plight of our women and children, who bear the full brunt of all forms of violence and upheavals. Let’s not sacrifice the lives of these innocent souls. Let’s not fail our forebears, many of whom had sacrificed their precious lives for you and I to enjoy stability today. Let’s not fail our beloved Motherland. Ultimately, let’s shun political violence and EMBRACE PEACE for the love of God and country.
