YES, the moment has finally come. The moment the Lord
has made. The moment of hope and posterity. The moment the Ghanaian people have
long been waiting for. The moment businessmen have been waiting for, to have
all nuisance taxes which are killing
their businesses, completely scrapped. The
moment teacher and nursing trainees have been waiting for, for the restoration
of their trainee allowance. The moment parents/guardians/students have been
waiting for, to enjoy free SHS.
The moment
the nation’s youth and graduates have been waiting for, to secure jobs, jobs
and jobs through massive industrial drive which creates such opportunities. The
moment the people of Zongo have long been waiting for, to have a dedicated Fund
(like the Zongo Development Fund) for the radical transformation of their lives
and their communities. The moment spare part dealers in the country have been
waiting for, to have all taxes on imported spare parts completely scrapped.
The moment
Kayayes have been waiting for, in order to enjoy some relief. The moment where
corruption, our number one enemy, becomes a felony rather than a misdemeanor in
order to achieve a deterrent regime and one of incorruptibility. The moment of
departure from a draconian tax regime to one of productivity and enhance
economic activity as a basis of generating revenue for the government. The
moment of having a Ghana beyond aid and more importantly, a Ghana with the most
business friendly environment in Africa.
The moment of
departure from the culture of impunity to one of deterrence and responsibility.
The moment of departure from the unenviable state of hopelessness to one of
hope, opportunities and posterity for the Ghanaian people. The moment of good
governance, institutional discipline and administrative justice.
This is the
kind of Ghana our forebears and founders including the legendary J.B. Danquah,
William Ofori Attah, Obetsebi Lamptey, Paa Grant, Ako Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo and
others had wished and gallantly fought for. I’m sure they must be smiling in
their graves by now, knowing that their inestimable sacrifices for country is yielding
the necessary dividends. This is the kind of Ghana you and I, have always dreamt
for our country. And that is why I say, the Ghanaian dream and for that matter
the vision of J.B. Danquah, William Ofori Attah and others, is fast becoming a
reality under the government of His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo.
It is
therefore not surprising that almost every citizen of Ghana is heaving a deep
sigh of relief after listening to President Akufo Addo’s asempa budget of hope
and posterity. The Association of Ghana Industry (AGI) is happy. Importers and
exporters are excited. Kayayes are jubilating. Spare part dealers across the
country are all jubilating and popping Champaign. Students are happy. Bankers
are happy. Public sector workers are happy. Traders are happy. The teeming unemployed
youth of our country are happy. My people in Kete-Krachi, Volta north are
happy.
Business
owners and individual entrepreneurs are happy. The people of Zongo are happy.
Teacher and nursing trainees are happy. Every Ghanaian is happy, as if, we were
living in servitude all this while and have now been rescued. What else can you
expect? I am happy because the Akufo-Addo – Bawumia government is making Ghana work again and I believe
that you are happy too, except if you don’t love your country. The thoughts of
a proud citizen of Ghana NOT a spectator.
In my subsequent write-ups, I would be zeroing in, on the specifics of the
content of the budget and why that should make you even happier.
Assalamu alaikum
